The Regional Pre-Service Instructor is responsible for the training and certification of all school bus and school van drivers in the assigned region. The Regional Pre-Service Instructor is employed through a contract with the Ohio Department of Education that defines the roles and responsibilities of the position.
General Description of Duties of Pre-Service Instructor:
- Maintain and promote positive community relations
- Instruct bus drivers, transportation supervisors, and on-bus instructors
- Conduct performance evaluations and driver certification training as necessary
- Schedule Pre-Service and Veteran classes
- Act as Regional Road-E-O facilitator
- Provide opportunities for in-service training for school districts
- Act in an advisory capacity to school districts
- Serve on advisory committees to ODE as requested
Required Qualifications:
- Successful BCI and FBI background checks
- Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
- Valid Ohio Department of Education certificate or license
- Successful experience in a supervisory position
- Knowledge of school bus laws, rules and regulations, traffic laws, school bus safety, mechanics, and routing
- Possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License with proper endorsements
- Successful teaching experience preferred
- Have at least two years of school bus driving experience
